A couple of days ago the full trailer to a new Steven Spielberg produced sci-fi blockbuster which will be directed by J.J.Abrams (Star Trek, MI:3) was released.
The film is an homage to the Spielberg's early sci-fi movies from the late 1970s and early 1980s era (E.T. & Close Encounters of the Third kind) as well as other 80s movies where the kids are the main characters (The Goonies, Stand by Me).
As with a previous produced Abrams project 'Cloverfield' there is great mystery as to what actually happens in the film. The official synopsis is as follows:
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
So if you have read down this far (thanks if you have) you're probably thinking why the hell is Remedi going on about this movie on his photo blog? Well along with the trailer they released a new poster which instantly reminded me of a picture I had taken while back when on a trip with some urban exploring friends....
This is the Super 8 teaser poster. It is unusual in the fact it's a panoramic landscape image tilted 90 degrees to portrait orientation. I've tilted it back it the 'right' way below
Now this is my picture of the Denge acoustic mirrors back in May 2010 taken in Kent ( With added Super 8 blue style tint)
Not as wide or as panoramic but kinda similar? My three friends standing in awe of the huge concrete "sound reflector". Has to be one of my favourite images that I've been able to capture.
So check the trailer out. I'm an 80s kid so I'm loving the nostalgia.
Is it an Alien? A government experiment gone wrong? E.T. back for revenge? On 10/6/11 We will know....
